Shiatsu is a Japanese form of massage therapy. The word Shiatsu comes from two Japanese words - “shi” (finger) and “atsu” (pressure). In addition to the direct stimulation of pressure points along the energy pathways of your body, gentle stretching techniques are applied over a wider area of the body to integrate the point work and encourage the flow of energy throughout the body. Shiatsu is a meditative healing art that honors the body, mind and spirit.  No oil is applied, so you are fully dressed during the session.

Thai Massage

60/90 minutes: $125/$175

Thai massage is more energizing and rigorous than most forms of massage therapy. It's also called Thai Yoga massage, because I use my hands, knees, legs, and feet to move you into a series of yoga-like postures and stretches. Clients say Thai massage is like doing yoga without doing any of the work.  Tension can be relieved through stretches incorporated in Thai massage.  No oil is applied, so you are fully dressed during the session.

Pregnancy Massage

60 minutes: $125

Pregnancy massage is self explanatory, a style of bodywork designed specifically for pregnant women. Pregnancy is a time when a woman's body endures tremendous stress due to physical and emotional changes. Using various techniques developed for the expecting mother, pregnancy massage helps release the pain and discomfort experienced throughout pregnancy. The benefits include emotional support, the relief of joint pain due to extra weight and postural imbalance, and improved breathing and relaxation.  Special care will be taken to position a mother's body for comfort during the session and consideration for areas in which to avoid.

*Session duration includes a total of 10 minutes to undress and dress.

Hot Stone Therapy

90 minutes: $185

Hot Stone Therapy is a style of massage where heated stones are placed at specific sites on your body to warm the muscle, deepen relaxation and promote circulation. The stones used in hot stone massage are typically basalt, volcanic rocks that are usually high in iron, which allows them to absorb and retain heat.

Muscles that are heated with these stones, release tension and stress much more deeply and quickly than with a traditional massage. The overall experience is very relaxing, nurturing, and rejuvenating.  This modality is combined with Swedish massage techniques.

*Session duration includes a total of 10 minutes to undress and dress.

Deep Tissue Massage

add-on: $15.00

Deep Tissue massage is a form of bodywork that aims to relieve tension in the deeper layers of tissue in the body. Deep tissue massage is a highly effective method for releasing chronic stress areas due to misalignment, repetitive motions, and past lingering injuries.  Due to the nature of the deep tissue work, open communication during the session is crucial to make sure you don't get too uncomfortable. Keep in mind that soreness is pretty common after the treatment.  After the  session, plenty of water should be ingested to aid in flushing toxins that are released during the deep tissue work.

*My pressure is pretty firm, but if you need more, this technique can be combined with Swedish massage, as an add-on.

**After your deep tissue massage, your body may feel lighter and more loose, posture is better, and knots are not as tight.  As toxins are released, it may have you feeling disoriented or emotional.  Be aware that you may also bruise from the deep pressure.

Myofascial Therapy

60 min (5 session minimum): $900

Myofascial release (Myo means muscle.  Fascial means fiber, the tough covering that wraps, connects and supports muscles) is a type of therapy technique used in massage. This therapy is focused on pain and restriction that comes from myofascial tissues.  These restrictions can be caused by numerous factors, such as trauma/injury, musculoskeletal conditions, repetitive stress syndrome, and poor posture.

This soft tissue manipulation addresses muscles that are shortened and scar tissue adhesion.  Freeing the muscles enables nerves to be retrained to fire properly.

*This is an add-on service, combined with the modality/session duration of your choice, 5 session package minimum. Please note that 12 minutes total of your session duration will be used to assess and reassess the body and range of motion.

Trigger Point Therapy

add-on: $50.00

Dr. Janet G. Travell conducted the first modern scientific study of trigger points in the early 1900s.  In 1961, she was appointed by president John F. Kennedy, as the White House physician.  She’s an American physician considered the pioneer of this field. In her studies, Dr. Travell observed that trigger points were a major source of pain in many of her patients. She went on to develop a system for identifying and treating these points, which is still used today.  Manual trigger point therapy is one of the most popular and well-known types of massage.

Trigger Point Therapy is a style of bodywork that focuses on stimulating and releasing “trigger point pain” in your body. Trigger points are tender areas of tension similar to acupressure points, except they occur in the belly of the muscle rather than along the energy pathways of the body. These “knots” are built up throughout a person's life due to physical, mental, and/or emotional stress and cause pain when they become irritated or inflamed. Often, this pain is felt in other parts of the body as well, due to the way that the nervous system is connected. During a session, focused pressure is applied through a variety of techniques in order to release your trigger points. This process can be quite painful at times, yet the effects are lasting and profoundly transformative.

When a muscle gets tight or knotted, it’s usually because one or more of the individual muscle cells has become shortened. This can happen for a variety of reasons, but the most common is simply overuse. When a muscle cell becomes shortened, it pulls on the collagen sheath, which pulls on the neighboring muscle cells. This can cause the entire muscle to become tight and knotted.

Through trigger point massage, tension can be released in the individual muscle cells. This allows the muscle to return to its normal length. As the muscle cells return to their normal length, the pressure on the collagen sheath is released, and the neighboring muscle cells are no longer being pulled. This can provide relief from pain and tension in the muscle.

Theoretically, trigger points are taut bands of muscle and fascia tissue that become rigid, restricting blood flow to muscle tissue. When this happens, muscle tissue is put into a state of metabolic crisis.

The muscle needs oxygen and other nutrients to heal. However, due to the tightness, oxygen and nutrients can’t reach the muscle. The cycle of pain, less blood flow, and pain start and can be hard to break.

However, the pain from a trigger point can vary depending on the individual. For some people, it may feel like a dull ache, while for others, it may be more of sharp pain. The pain may also radiate from the trigger point to other areas of the body. For example, a trigger point in the shoulder may cause pain to radiate down the arm.  This is also known as "referred pain"

There are a few things that can increase your risk of developing trigger points, including:

  • Tight muscles
  • Poor posture
  • Inactivity or too much activity
  • Muscle overuse or injury
  • Stressful lifestyle

Benefits from trigger point therapy are:

Better Circulation

Improved circulation is one advantage of trigger point therapy. When muscles are taut, they might impede blood circulation. This may result in various issues, including tiredness, headaches, and vertigo. Trigger point treatment may assist in releasing contracted muscles and enhancing circulation. This may assist enhance your energy levels and general health.

Reduced Stress and Tension

Muscle tension may also contribute to stress and tension. Trigger point therapy may help alleviate tension and stress by releasing knots in the muscles. This can result in an overall sense of relaxation.

Increased Mobility and Flexibility

If your muscles are stiff, it may be difficult to move freely. This might reduce your range of motion and make it challenging to perform daily tasks. Trigger point treatment may assist in relaxing tense muscles and enhancing mobility.

Additionally, tight muscles might make it challenging to accomplish a complete range of motion. This might restrict your mobility and make some tasks difficult. Trigger point treatment may assist in releasing contracted muscles and increasing flexibility.

Higher Energy Levels

When your muscles are tense, it may drain your vitality. This is because the body must compensate for the tightness by working harder. Trigger point treatment may assist in releasing contracted muscles and boosting energy levels.

Better Sleep

Additionally, tight muscles might make sleeping difficult. This is because they might induce pain and discomfort, making falling and maintaining sleep hard. Trigger point treatment may assist in releasing contracted muscles and enhancing sleep.

Pain Relief From A Headache

The head and neck are one of the most typical locations for tense muscles. This may cause great strain and stress, leading to headaches. Trigger point treatment may assist in the relaxation of tense muscles in the head and neck, hence alleviating headache discomfort.

*You will also want to avoid eating a large meal before your session, as this can make you feel uncomfortable.

**Keep in mind that the area you have pain, may not be the root of the problem (referral pain).  Be aware of this, when your therapist works on the trigger point, not the area of the referred pain.

Aromatherapy

add-on: $15

Essential oils are basically plant extracts. They're made by steaming or pressing various parts of a plant (flowers, bark, leaves or fruit) to capture the compounds that produce fragrance.  Aromatherapy is the practice of using essential oils for therapeutic benefit and has been used for centuries. When inhaled, the scent molecules in essential oils travel from the olfactory nerves directly to the brain and especially impact the amygdala, the emotional center of the brain.

Research shows that aromatherapy can have health benefits. It could:

  • Ease stressanxiety, and depression
  • Boost feelings of relaxation
  • Improve sleep
  • Help improve quality of life for people with long-term health problems like dementia (scent triggers memory)
  • Ease certain types of pain
  • When applied topically, work as an anti-fungal/anti-bacterial

*This service can be a great add-on to Swedish massage.

Cryotherapy

add-on: $15

Cryotherapy, which literally means “cold therapy,” is a technique where the body is exposed to extremely cold temperatures for several minutes.  You can get benefits from just one session of cryotherapy, but it’s most effective when used regularly.  Some athletes use cryotherapy twice a day.  Others will go daily for 10 days and then once a month afterwards.  Cryotherapy can be delivered to the entire body or localized.  The localized method is used here through ice massage.  Some benefits of ice massage is that it can reduce migraine symptoms, numbs nerve irritation (athletes have been using cryotherapy to treat injuries for years), and even help alleviate some atopic skin conditions.

*Please note that if you have lack of sensory perception, that this kind of treatment may not be recommended.  Those with diabetes or any conditions that affect their nerves should not use cryotherapy. They may be unable to fully feel its effect and unable to communicate that to the massage therapist, which could lead to further nerve damage.

**This is an add-on service to Swedish massage

Fire Cupping

30 minutes: $65

Oriental bodywork aims to restore and balance the flow of energy throughout your body.  My family passed down the art of fire cupping to me.  I am trained to safely and effectively carry out the benefits of this cupping method.  The benefits of cupping include improvement for pain, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation and well-being, also providing a type of reverse deep tissue massage.

A flame is placed inside the cup.  Once the flame is removed, the cup is place face down on the body, at specific meridians to help improve circulation and pull stagnant energy and toxins from the body.

When the flame is in the cup it consumes the oxygen.  The lack of oxygen is what creates the negative pressure/suctioning effect, causing the soft tissue to pull, lift, and decompress.  Your blood vessels expand as the soft tissue reddens.

Cupping acts as a reverse massage, using suction rather than pressure to alleviate muscle aches. Combining the warmth with the suction also helps guide fresh blood to painful areas.

Improves range of motion by lubricating or loosening deep fascia. Fascia is the connective tissue that holds everything in place, including muscle and bone. Fire cupping loosens it up, which allows for less restriction and more free movement.

Cupping therapy might be trendy now, but it’s not new. It dates back to ancient Egyptian, Chinese, and Middle Eastern cultures. One of the oldest medical textbooks in the world, the Ebers Papyrus, describes how the ancient Egyptians used cupping therapy in 1,550 B.C.

After the treatment, wear breathable loose clothing, wait 3 hours before showering, avoid exposing your body to any draft and drink plenty of water.  Be advised that you may experience red or purple, round cupping therapy marks that should fade in a week or two. Although these marks will look like bruises, they're not true bruises that injure muscle fibers.

*Session duration includes a total of 10 minutes to undress and dress.

**Even though it is considered safe, cupping isn't for everyone. It is not recommended for people with liver, kidney or heart failure or those with a pacemaker. It also shouldn't be used if you are pregnant, have hemophilia, anemia or similar blood disorders, heart disease, open sores, or are on blood thinners.

Reflexology

30 minutes: $65

Great for those that love a good hand and foot massage!

Reflexology is a type of bodywork that focuses on applying pressure to the specific nerve zones in your feet and hands. Unlike other foot/hand massages that intend to mostly relieve tension in the feet themselves, reflexology is a far more in-depth science that aims to harmonize your entire body. According to reflexology, every part of the human body is mapped into your feet. Reflexology treatments have been found to be highly effective for conditions such as allergies, headaches, and depression.

Acupressure

60 minutes: $150.00

Acupressure is based on one the most ancient principles of healing - that simply touching a specific point on the body will release stress and improve health in the body. In an acupressure session, I apply firm pressure directly to these “points” on your body, which relieves your muscle tension and improves your circulation. This simple and powerful technique has been shown to be very effective in treating headaches, backaches, and even insomnia.

*This technique is already used in Shiatsu, Thai, and can be used in Swedish massage for certain areas of concern.  The price above is for a full session of acupressure with intent or focus on issues you are having (migraine, digestion, detoxification, etc.).

Lymphatic Drainage

60 minutes: $125

Lymphatic Drainage Therapy aims to gently and rhythmically move the lymph through the body, especially swollen areas of the body, relieving pressure and enhancing the functioning of the immune system. As both a preventative and remedial technique, lymphatic drainage can be used for a wide range of purposes including faster recovery from injury, reduction of swelling and discomfort from pregnancy, and strengthened resistance to illness.

*Session duration includes a total of 10 minutes to undress and dress.

Sports Massage

Consultation needed: Contact massage therapist

Sports injuries are inevitable, despite preventive efforts.  Athlete’s body will undergo rigorous activity during training and competition.  Sports injuries may be a result of accidents, poor training practices, the use of improper equipment, lack of conditioning or insufficient warm-up.

The overall goal of sports massage is to help athletes achieve their performance goal.

Sports massage is targeted to:

  • Support fitness
  • Reduce the demands of the sport, on the body
  • Improve performance
  • Shorten recovery time

Sports Massage is a type of massage designed for highly active people who engage in athletics. Engaging in sports can be hard on the body and can often lead to injuries, both short and long term. Sports Massage enhances performance and prolongs a sports career by helping to reduce pain and swelling in the body, relax the mind, increase flexibility, and dramatically improve recovery rates. Sports Massage is also highly effective in aiding rapid recovery for injured athletes by encouraging greater kinesthetic awareness and in turn promoting the body's natural immune function.  My background in anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology, as well as my knowledge of sports illness and the use of correct massage techniques, in accordance with the competition timeline, will help determine which treatment plan is best for the athlete.
